After Decade of Dedication to Halo, Tom French Leaves 343 Industries

The video game industry has been rocked today with the news that Tom French, a leading figure at the iconic Halo studio, 343 Industries, has left the company after more than a decade of dedication to the franchise.

French joined 343 Industries in 2008 shortly after the re-launch of Halo 3, bringing over a decade’s prior experience in the gaming industry. His first task was to help the studio build its infrastructure to better handle its expanding game development.

During his time at 343 Industries, French rose to become a major figure at the studio, credited as the key link between the studio and Microsoft. He was instrumental in the development of Halo 4 and its successor, Halo 5: Guardians. As 343 Industries’ Executive Producer, he was responsible for overseeing the franchise’s flagship titles and was a leading voice in the decision-making process for the studio’s work.

It is yet to be announced where French will head next. It is likely he will remain in the gaming industry, given his history and contacts, but this has yet to be confirmed.

French’s departure does not appear to affect 343 Industries’ plans to continue work on Halo Infinite’s multiplayer. A Microsoft spokesperson released a statement, saying: “We thank Tom for his years of service to the team and wish him all the best in the future.”

For now, the industry awaits news of where his future career will take him.
