How to Obtain a Canine Companion in GTA V

Canines, or any kind of animals, for that matter, weren't present in the Grand Theft Auto franchises until the release of GTA V. In this edition, players have the opportunity to have a pet and even take a canine called "Chop" on strolls.

1. Head to Franklin’s abode. You take on the role of Franklin Clinton at the beginning of GTA V. Roughly five missions beyond the opening sequence, and immediately after the mission titled “Repossession", head back to Franklin’s residence on Forum Drive in Los Santos, identifiable by its single-story structure with white wire fencing.
2. Initiate the Chop mission. Franklin’s friend, Lamar, will show up at the abode, requesting you to accompany him in collecting certain items. Locate his white Speedo van outside and drive it.
3. Make your way to the targeted locale. Lamar directs you towards an alley off Vinewood Boulevard. Use the in-game navigation at the bottom of your screen to find this location with ease.
4. Exit the vehicle. Upon reaching your destination, leave the vehicle and proceed on foot towards the alley. A cinematic will play, depicting Franklin and Lamar concealing their faces with bandanas, while another individual quickly departs on a motorbike.
5. Pursue the motorcyclist. Return to your van and follow the just-departed motorcyclist. This individual is swift on the bike, but your goal is not to overtake him. Ensure you maintain sight of him. After a span of vehicular pursuit, an accident involving the motorcyclist and a bus occurs. Leave your van and continue the pursuit by running. Chop, belonging to Lamar, will accompany you.
6. Engage Chop’s perspective. As you draw near the motorcyclist, an option to switch to Chop’s perspective will appear on the screen. Activate the indicated button, and the viewpoint will transition from Franklin to Chop.
7. Capture the motorcyclist. The on-foot chase concludes in a train yard where the motorcyclist takes cover within boxcars. Chop will use his olfactory capabilities to locate him. To aid in the search, switch between Chop’s perspective and allow the dog to guide you. Once located, Lamar will show up with the van. Place the motorcyclist within and drive off.
8. Exit the train yard. Lamar instructs you to head towards his home. Drive out of the train yard, and during the journey, Lamar will initiate a ransom call in exchange for the motorcyclist’s release.
9. Free the motorcyclist. Responding to Lamar’s conversation, Franklin will insist on the motorcyclist’s release. Pull over, allow the individual to exit the van, and then continue driving. Follow the in-game navigation to drop Lamar and Chop off at the designated spot, concluding the mission.
10. Enjoy time with Chop. Post-mission, Lamar informs you of Chop’s temporary stay with you. Return to Franklin’s home where the canine awaits in the yard.

Celebrate, for you now have a pet in GTA V. Engage with Chop either by playing with a ball or taking him for leisurely outings from the residence.
