How Roblox Is Catalyzing Professional Opportunities Throughout the United States

To gain a deeper insight into Roblox’s influence on the American economy, we’re unveiling the findings of our inaugural economic and social impact study.

Although Roblox doesn’t directly employ creators, the Developer Exchange (DevEx) Program* made an approximate contribution equivalent to almost 18,000 full-time jobs** across the nation from 2017 to 2023.

Among those who monetized their work on our platform, 38% stated they wouldn’t have earned money from creating interactive content without Roblox, and 56% revealed they don’t develop for any other platforms.

Our research also indicated that many U.S.-based creators are located in areas distant from the major coastal cities traditionally linked with the tech industry.

Each day, 79.5 million users*** visit Roblox to explore a multitude of experiences and interact with numerous 3D items crafted by our community. For the 12 months ending June 30, 2024, we disbursed $803 million to our global creator community, marking an 18% increase compared to the previous year. These creators, who develop the experiences, avatars, and items available on Roblox, are spread across the U.S., including many who reside in regions not typically seen as technology centers.

To empower the creation of anything, anywhere, by anyone, we have heavily invested in a comprehensive set of tools within Roblox Studio, the world’s most accessible 3D development tool. Studio allows any creator to reach an audience, publish globally in a matter of seconds, and iterate quickly. Creators join Roblox for various reasons: Some are attracted by the opportunity to learn coding or game development, others are motivated by the joy of creating, and some are focused on monetizing their projects and establishing a business on Roblox. With this in mind, we sought to understand how Roblox has influenced individual enterprises and impacted economies in regions not commonly associated with the technology sector.

Consequently, we are openly sharing the results of our first study on Roblox’s economic and social impact in the U.S.****, organized by Nordicity, a prominent economic research firm. The report highlights the size and economic advantages of our creator community within the U.S. Specifically, 44% of the 147 creators surveyed from areas outside traditional tech hubs mentioned that without Roblox, they probably wouldn’t be engaged in technology, starting new ventures, or collaborating with major brands or artists. We are proud to have played a role in their achievements.
